Large Handcarved Stone Frog
A magnificent, large handcarved stone frog. One of two available. The frogs originate from the region of the Lesser Sunda Islands in the Indonesian archipelago. Due to their size and presence, they are likely to have been found at the entrance to a temple or a public garden. They were part of a private collection which was shipped to the U.K. over 30 years ago, and have remained in a garden ever since.
The frogs have a wonderful patina, weathered with moss and lichen. Their exact age is difficult to specify, however they were already of considerable age when brought to the U.K.
They are very heavy as they are carved from real stone, not composite. Each frog is impressive in scale and unique in form.
Sold individually, there are 2 x frogs available.
This listing is for one frog only - it is the frog pictured on the left in the photo showing both. Please refer to our other listing for the other frog available.
